Windows Hyper-V to VMware

Recently we have Completed the project on the migration from Windows Hyper-V to VMware.

In this Blog, I would like to share some overall idea about our migration activity and procedure.


IT Setup Before Migration

Two node Cluster

Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 (Active Directory on both Physical Server)

HP Storage Box use for shared Storage

15.No. s of VM in cluster


IT Setup After Migration

2 Physical Server -ESXI 6.0

15 no’s of VM (Including Vcenter)

Storage use NetApp (1.2*10)

2 Dell Switch’s for ISCSI Target and failover


Migration Steps Summary

VMware vCenter Converter is require to Covert Hyper VM to VMware ESXI.

Install the Converter Tool, and select the machine which needs to be converted and Specify the power on the machine (A remote machine) then use the Local Administrator account password to convert the system. In the Destination, type select the VMware Infrastructure Virtual Machine then put the ESXI details and password set the Destination Virtual Machine name, Data store and data copy type.

We have converted the few no. of systems using this tool. Remaining server data Migration is done manually on latest operating system.
